Our Downtown office was included in the Art in Public Places project. This program was established in 1979 by the Florida Legislature. Public Art refers to artwork that is located in the public’s space such as in the lobby or outside a state, local government or private facility. Public art is either purchased for the space or an artist will be commissioned to create a specific piece of artwork to reflect distinctive qualities of the space, its function, natural surroundings, architectural environment, or neighborhood identity. Beth Ravitz is the artist selected by the committee to create our display and we provided her with recycled license plates to create our project. It took her months to complete and an entire day to install it.
We think she knocked it out of the park!! It’s even prettier in person.
Our offices will be closed on December 24th and 25th. Please visit our website for online services at AlachuaCollector.com.
We wish you a safe and happy holiday!

The registration renewal period of heavy trucks weighing between 5,001 pounds and 7,999 pounds is changing from December to the primary registrant’s birth date, unless the owner is a business. If your Heavy Truck registration expires Dec. 2020 you will have the option to extend the renewal to your birth month in 2021 or an additional year to your birth month in 2022. If your date of birth falls within January and June you can pay a prorated amount to renew your registrations in December 2020 for 1 to 18 months. Likewise, customers whose date of birth falls within July and December would pay a prorated amount in December 2020 for 7-24 months. For more information visit the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles website.
This year the United Way of North Central Florida awarded the Alachua County Tax Collector’s office with their highest honor…the GAV Award!!! “GAV” stands for “Give, Advocate and Volunteer”. We are in company with UF Health, Nationwide and Enterprise Holdings. That’s huge! We thank our staff for their consistent support throughout the years. Last year we also achieved 100% participation with payroll deduction contributions. Contributions have never been needed more. The COVID-19 pandemic has stretched available resources with more people needing assistance, while donations have taken a hit at the same time.
