USPS Postmark Date Could Affect Acceptance of Timely Documents
The deadline to pay the 2025 property taxes is Tuesday, March 31st. As of December 24, 2025, the USPS defines a postmark by the date of processing, not receipt. Postmarks now reflect when a machine first processes the mail at a regional facility, which may be days after deposit. This means mail dropped off on a deadline day may be postmarked with a later date. To ensure a timely postmark, taxpayers should send mail earlier than needed or request a hand-stamped postmark showing the actual mailing date. Keep this process in mind when mailing voting ballots and filing tax returns as well to avoid any issues.
